New FAFSA Tool for Counselors

This is an easy, fast tool to tell you how many students in your senior class have completed the FAFSA.  I had an unfortunate shock when I used it to look up my schoool…

As we are in the midst of the traditional Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Filing Season and we approach a number of state, institutional and private aid filing deadlines, the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) will announce the release of an innovative FAFSA Completion Tool to help guidance professionals, school administrators, and practitioners both track and subsequently increase FAFSA submission and completion rates at every qualifying high school across the country.

For the very first time, Federal Student Aid has compiled aggregate FAFSA submission and completion rates by individual high school and is making this data available to the public through the FSA Data Center (URL when live: http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/datacenter/fafsahs.html). The FAFSA Completion Tool will provide every high school in the United States whose students have completed five or more FAFSAs with information about how many applications were submitted and completed for 2012-2013 application year by students enrolled in their school.

It appears there is some work to do to clean up the high school lists to eliminate some duplication/double names.  What a great tool to know how the high schools you serve are doing!!
